Hey mate, posted a thread up here

And was given your site as a resource.
I need to hack the on board gyro on the TX2421 so I can fit an external HH gyro.
Any ideas?
Hi Jim,
im afraid i can’t help you as i don’t know the RX you are referring to.
Maybe you can post some pictures of the RX PCB on RCGroups?
Rob
Hey Rob,
I’m interested in the mods you posted in order to use a separate gyro with the RX2609 in my 4G6. The way I understand it the raw rudder channel signal would normally go to the gyro board, along with the AUX2/gyro-sense channel, then from the gyro board to the rudder servo connector. When you remove the gyro board, how did you get the raw rudder signal to the rudder connector?
Sorry if I’ve missed something but I couldn’t find specifics.
Thanks – Don.
Hi Don,
the 2609 already has a rudder output so you can get the raw rudder signal from it. The tail servo output that is used on the stock 4G6 is labeled SX and its the gyro-ed mix of the ruddersignal and gyro. What you also want is the gyrosense signal: you can get it from one of the pins the connect the walkera gyro board to the rx board (see my pics).
Rob
Thanks Rob.
When I got home and had a look at the receiver I twigged to the fact that there was already an (unused) rudder output. I’ll make the same mods as you and move the gyro-sense output to the SX servo connector and that will give me everything I need. I’ve got an LVBoost on the way to get a good 4-4.5V to the receiver and separate gyro when the battery is under load. These 2609’s are a versatile little 6-channel receiver really, and cheap.
Keep up the good work – Don.

I trying to use this 2609rx in an airplane (electric), normally the battery plugs into the ESC the ESC into the throttle of the rx, for some reason I an getting no LED light in the rx when I use this method, Is this the correct way to supply voltage to the rx ?
Tom
this is the right way to connect it. have you checked the polarity of the 3 wires from esc to rx? it should be white-red-black from left to right (orientation like in the picture above).
That was the problem, polarity, I have it correct now, Thanks for the help.
can other Walkera RX do this mods?, or just 2609?
Thanks
as far as i know only the 2609 has the gyro on a separate board.
Rob, would it be possible for you to name all of the connections between the RX and gyro? I would like to hard wire an aftermarket gyro.
Thank you for your help.
i dont have the pic at the moment, but its pretty simple as there are only +,- (on the left, but not sure about the order) and then the signal connections for rudder, gyrosense/gain and tailservo. check for plus and minus with a voltmeter, the signals should be easy to identify (just put a servo on).
Are the two pins on the other side just to stabilize the gyro?
Thanks Rob, I had assumed the five pins were +,-,(-,+), Rud, Gain, Gyro out. just wanted confirmation.
yes, the two other pins are only there to keep the two boards together.
Hi Rob,
i’m a newcomer to this Heli stuff – enjoying it so far, which i watched some of your Video put up very detail.
i have a WK2801 pro transmitter and Lama3 love it. other Walkera model as well, some how it wont bind with any ( the Motor wont turn) all the servos working except the Motor !!!
it all happened Reset the transmitter. Please help me out here
Thanks
Shiu
Hi Shiu,
you might want to check if the trim on the throttle channel is all the way down, otherwise the ESC wont arm / start the motor (this is a safety feature). You can also check the servo monitor (MONITOR) on the 2801 TX.
Hope this helps,
Rob
